The Christening Box - Lily

This was a very challenging project, that really tested my skill set.

The body of the box is made up of two pieces of oak with a central strip of coloured resin. This worked really well except for there being some minor air bubbles to the top edge. These were ground out and then filled with new resin.

The lid of the box was a really fun concept as I wanted to have their name engraved to the top edge, I decided to use a lighter blue opal to make the name stand out. I also set the lid at a slight angle so the band of opal would taper off on one side for the name to be engraved.

The centre of the lid is set with dyed miniature flowers, these are a great addition to the lid as they add a spot of colour outside of the blue opal.

This is the largest project I have made and the end result was greater than I or the clients could have imagined, this is an item that will stand the test of time and allow the box to be used for a multitude of uses.
